Practice essay - agent Carter (2013)
Agent Carter (2013)
When it came to analyzing the agent carter film, the first thing that immediately caught my attention was the music. At the beginning of the film, there is an inclusion of both diegetic and non-diegetic sounds, the diegetic sound is portrayed when we hear the dialogue between the two, and the music playing in the background would serve as a non-diegetic sound. The two played an important role when it came to evoking emotion through the audience due to the fact that the two talking, with the semi-sad music playing, and with what seems a dangerous scene just keeps the audience on its toes since we’re not sure the outcome of the scene (whether he survives or not). Another very noticeable aspect would be the camera angles, throughout the film we can view the use of closeup shots (ex: this film uses close-up shots when a document or paper is being shown) the inclusion of close-up shots in this film focused on either an object or the characters face in order to show us as the audience the importance of that specific item, or the characters emotions and or facial expressions. When it comes to conversations or just overall dialogue scenes, this film has the tendency of using over-the-shoulder shots or two shots. The use of the two camera angles placed us as the audience into the scene and made it feel as if we're also physically included in the conversation which evoked a sense of realism within the film. Another aspect that I noticed when analyzing the film would be the editing techniques. For example, in the film, there’s a scene where we can. Observe the female actor fighting two men and there’s an inclusion of post synchronizing dubbing (the sound of fighting noise) whereas inside the building we can view the security guard reading a news article with the inclusion of music in the background. Another important aspect of the film would be the setting and the costumes. In this film, there are a lot of bricked and old buildings and the majority of these buildings do not resemble the 21st-century architecture and instead, they resemble a few decades past. It is clear that the director of the film wanted to enforce, an old-time era, and the buildings aided that process. Another concept that helped would be the stations. The stations consist of typewriters, rotary dial phones, boxed computers, and so forth. Once again, these aspects are propping that the director included in order to illustrate the time era he wanted to achieve. Another aspect would be their costumes. Men and women are all dressed in fancy business suits and attire, and in the present time today usually the only people dressed in that attire are businessmen/women. The director used editing, mise-en-scene, camera shots, and sounds in order to evoke a sense of realism within the film which aided in the success of the film
